The Rio Grande

This is the first time in the fourteen years we have lived here that I have seen the river run dry at Albuquerque.

This will be devastating to wildlife all along the US/Mexico border region. It is dry enough under normal conditions, but this year, many terrestrial animals will have serious issues.

Yes, the lowering river flows is a process that has been going on for many years, but the complete absence of water in the channels will be catastrophic for many species. It is interesting that most local news and weather reporters have not paid any attention to such a dramatic event. There is one environmental specialist on the local PBS station who has called attention to the issue, but one really has to directly see what is happening to appreciate the magnatude of the problem.
